The company Zebra Pen was started in New York in 1982 and the story tells us that Mr Ishikawa, the founder of the brand Zebra from 1914, wanted the company name to be something memorable and that could be understood in other countries. The fact that the animal, the zebra, looks a bit like it has been decorated with calligraphic pen strokes may also have been a part of the reason behind the name.
